It's Always A Great Day To Be A Dragon!!!
The
organization I’m doing my mentorship for is Tiffin University. Established in 1888, the private university
has established a solid reputation for educational excellence and visionary
leadership. They offer unique fields of
study such as Cyber Defense and Information Security and Homeland Security and Terrorism. The university strives for the same excellence
in their graduate program. There are four
programs offered in 21 areas of concentration.
In October of 2013, Tiffin University's online MBA in
Sports Management was ranked fifth nationally by TheBestSchools.org.
Under the leadership of current president Dr. Paul Marion, Tiffin has grown leaps and bounds. Over the last seven years, the university has expnaded from around 500 students on campus to roughly 1400. There has been physical growth in terms of buildings as well. In May 2012, the Heminger Center opened by hosting TU’s graduation ceremony. The building has an eight lane track, four basketball courts which can also be used for tennis matches and a 50-yard turf room. The turf room is a valuable asset for the athletic programs.
The university recently purchased the main building of the old Hanson Machinery Company. Renovations are currently underway to convert the building into faculty offices, a complete radio and TV broadcasting center and a sports pub among others.
The athletic program made a move from NAIA to NCAA Division II. The Dragons, as the teams are known, compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) which is considered to be one of the five toughest conferences in DII. This past March, Lamar Hargrove became the first individual national champion when he won the 60 and 200-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Additional accomplishments include Ali Quast setting six game, season and career national records in lacrosse in 2013, Kyle Doss earning All-American honors in the first year of the swimming program (2013-14), Chris Ivory and Nate Washington playing in the NFL and having two athletes lead the country in individual statistics.
